Battlefield 3 is the newest online multiplayer FPS game from DICE. On this page I'll talk about the basic tactics you need to be more of a asset to your squad and team.

  1. Spot! When you see an enemy, in most cases the first thing you should do is Spot him (On the PC, this is done by aiming at him, and hitting Q on the keyboard) - this puts that enemy soldier on the map for the rest of your team to see, and also a marker above his head so that you can more easily track him.
  2. Play the Objective - For example: Don't play an attacking role when you're defending in a Rush mode game. Do what you're supposed to do to help your team win the battle. Defend flags, capture flags, spot enemies, heal squad mates, drop ammo, etc.
  3. Play your kit - if you decided to spawn as the Assault kit, throw down those med kits. If you're recon, put down the mobile spawn points - engineers, fix your buddies tank, support guys, ammo please! Also, assess the situation, if you want to spawn in a tank your buddy is driving, spawn as an engineer so that you can get out and fix the tank if needed. Also, if you see your squad mate is heavily under fire, don't spawn by him, unless you want to give the enemy player a double kill. If your guy dies, don't just rush in to revive him, first see if you can get the enemy who killed him - you're no use to anyone when you die too!
  4. Don't camp - nobody likes it when a player just stays in one spot and kills people - it's really frustrating for the guys who play the game properly.
  5. Follow orders - if your squad leader gives an attack or defend command, follow that order - not only will you get some more points for following the order, but you'll also contribute to the battle to win the match.
  6. Fire in bursts - if you have an assault rifle, don't just hold down the fire button until your clip is empty - this causes heavy recoil on  your gun, which makes you far less accurate - shoot in small burst, this will up your accuracy, and get you more kills, and make you a more valuable player.
  7. When your clip is empty and you still need to shoot, switch over to your handgun - that's what it's there for - you can switch guns while reloading, this has helped me in a tight spot on several occasions!
  8. 95% of the time the people flying the jets have no clue on what they're doing (yes you know who I'm talking about!) - getting in a jet if you're no good at it doesn't help your team at all - it's one less guy on the battlefield - same thing with choppers, if you cannot fly the things and crash all the time, don't do it.
  9. Stick with your squad, remember just running off alone doesn't help anyone - it makes you an easy target.
  10. If friendly fire is on, be careful to not hit your team mates. Also, don't chuck a grenade close to where you know a team mate is - would you do that in real life??
  11. If you're not an engineer, and you see a tank, just spot it and hide/run away - you're only going to die a horrible death.
  12. When you decide to equip your gun with the lazer sight or tactical flash light, remember that it's ON by default - you CAN blind your own team mates with that too you know...
That's it for now - if you can follow these basic rules, not only will you be a much more valuable player for your team, you'll also have lots more fun!
